In the spring of 2023, the Bulldogs girls team began formation out of a group of girls who met in the Garfield Heights Learn-to-Play program. Girls from across the area interested in less competitive, recreational play offered by the Bulldogs Girls Hockey program joined the 2023-2024 team. Simultaneously, other programs in the area similarly provided recreational/alternate all-girls programming for their players.
Notable Events:
In what we believe was the first organized all-girls hockey game between Cleveland Suburban Hockey League member oranizations (at least in many years), the Shaker Heights Raiders visited the Garfield Heights Bulldogs for a competitive game. We thank Shaker Heights for bringing many fans to the rink as seeing so many fans cheer on girls hockey was truly a sight like no other.
The Bulldogs put out a call for girls playing on Cleveland area teams interested in an all-girls scrimmage to attend a mix-in scrimage game at Garfield Heights. On this night, we split our roster evenly among our home white and road blues. About a dozen guests from across the area joined us for this first mix-in game. These players were generally split evenly between "home" and "road" teams. In general, we attempted to keep players who came from the same team or program with each other on the on the same "team" in this game.
In the second of our competitive hockey games, the Bulldogs invited the Eastisde Tigers girls to Garfield for a game. The Tigers were a great and welcome guest and provided a great game expereince for the Bulldogs girls team. We would always welcome them back.
Following the success of the CSHL girls mix-in game, Garfield and Kent agreed to a home-and-home mixed-intersquad meeting where half of each organization would would wear home and half of each organization would wear road uniforms as agreen upon by the teams and coaches. Those who wore white uniforms were coached by Garfield coaching staff. Those who wore black(Kent) / blue(Garfield) were coached by Kent coaching staff. Both organizations are thankful for the contributions and considerations of the other.
In the second leg of the home-and-home series between Garfield and Kent, the teams met again for the second mixed-intersquad match. Again, both teams were split in half and mixed for parity. As with the previous game, those who wore white uniforms were coached by Garfield coaching staff and those who wore black(Kent) / blue(Garfield) were coached by Kent coaching staff. The parity aspect of the mixed-intersquad idea was a huge mark of success and made the game (and series) incredibly fun for the players, the parents, and the coaches.
North East Ohio welcomed another all-girls team in North Olmstead during the 2023-2024 season. Our two teams scheduled a home-and-home series between each other in the final months of the season as a spectacular close out to a great inaugural season. North Olmstead hosted the first game between girls teams from these two Cleveland Suburban Hockey League organizations.

Tthe Bulldogs girls team returned to play for the 2024-2025 season with several returning players and several new friends on the team.
Notable Events:
To continue the tradition of girls hockey in cleveland, the Eastside Tigers and their girls team returned to Garfield Heights. The recreation center was full with fans, family, and friends eagerly cheering on their players. As the puck dropped, the girls showcased their skills, determination, and passion for the sport. The first hockey game of the season served as a reminder of the incredible impact sports can have, fostering a sense of community and empowerment.
Following the success from 2023-2024, Garfield returned to hosting girls drop-in games. These opportunities make it clear that the Cleveland suburban area is home to a wealth of talented girls hockey players.
Garfield Heights welcomes Shaker Heights back for the another game in our second season of play. Shaker Heights team plays part time. We're thrilled to have an opportunity to play.
The Westside Sirens are a new all-girls program for the 2024-2025 season based in North Olmstead. Westside's 10U team offered to host Garfield in a game against their 10U program. It served both programs with a chance to learn from each other and build lasting connections within the hockey community.
Following the success of the game against the 10U team, the Westside Sirins 12U team hosted Garfield Heights. As we've done in the 2023-2024 season, players from each team split up and made two teams composed of roughly half of each team. The Westside coaching staff took care of the team in white jerseys. The Garfield coaching staff took care of the black/blue jerseys. These types of games continue to provide excellent learning experiences for the players as well as to build or strengthen bonds with other girls hockey players in the area.
